Everyone knows this rather annoying phenomena – one puts a newly bought silk blouse on for the first time and a short time later, as if by magic, it acquires a coffee stain. We explain what you should do to remove the different types of stain.
1. First stay calm and then consider how to remove the stain. For example mud stains should be allowed to dry out first.
2. If you are using a special detergent, you should first try it first on a concealed part of your garment to test it.

When removing stains, you should be aware of the following points:
- Do not use acetone on artificial fibres such as acetate and triacetate
- Be careful when using lead hydroxide and chloride, because they have a bleaching effect
- Never use bleaching agents on textiles containing polyamides, polyester, acrylics, linen, silk and viscose
- If you are using special detergents, work on the stain from the outside to the inside.
- Do not iron the fabric until the stain has been removed completely.
- After you have wiped away the blood, use a mixture of ¼ 20 % lead hydroxide* and ¾ water together with some drops of ammoniac and dab the stain with this mixture as described above. Be very careful, because it might bleach.
- In case of white fabrics containing linen, cotton or silk, you can use lead hydroxide*. Soak the garment in 10% lead hydroxide* and leave it for 10-15 minutes, rinse in plenty of water and wash as usual.
- Soak the chewing gum with acetone* and use a clean cloth to remove the stain. Test the suitability of the fabric before you use acetone*.
- Use a mixture of equal parts of 90% alcohol* and white wine vinegar. Apply this solution to the stain and carefully dab it.
- Use a solvent (suitable for the fibre) and dab the stain away in a circle. Next use a mixture of plenty of water and little vinegar to repeat this process. Then wash as usual.
- Soak a cloth with solvent and dab the stain away. Afterwards rinse the garment with lukewarm water and wash as usual.
- Use a mixture of three parts 90% alcohol* and one part of water for dabbing the stain. If it is not completely removed, you can use a mixture of one part 20% lead hydroxide* and three parts of water for dabbing, but be careful, it is a bleaching agent.
- Scratch off as much glue as you can and then dab the rest with a cloth soaked in nail varnish remover or acetone. Before you use acetone, please make sure that the fabric is suitable for such treatment.
- Wash the stain with plenty of soap, then dab with 90% alcohol*.
- Blue ink can be removed with ink remover. Dab the remaining stain first with solvent and then apply with white wine vinegar or 90% alcohol.
- This type of stain can be removed by dabbing with a cloth soaked in white wine vinegar or 90% alcohol*.
- Use a cotton cloth soaked in solvent to dab the stain. Please establish the suitability of the solvent by trying on a concealed spot on the garment.
- Scratch off as much chocolate as you can and then dab the edge of the stain with a solvent (white spirit). Mix equal parts of 90% alcohol* and white wine vinegar. Soak the stain in this solution and then dab it carefully.
- Let this stain dry and just brush it off. Use a mixture of one litre of water and 1 table spoon of ammoniac* to dab the residue from the stain.
- Use an absorbent paper (blotting paper) and put garment on top, dab the stain with nail varnish remover from the left hand side. Make sure that the remover is suitable for the fabric concerned.
- Treat the stain with dry soap and then soak it in hot water. Rinse the garment again with water and wash as usual.
- Use a mixture of three parts 90% alcohol* and a part of water to dab the stain as soon as possible after discovery.
- Use an anti rust agent and follow the instructions carefully.
- Use a cotton cloth soaked in turpentine* and dab the stain from outside to inside.
- Use a mixture of 250 ml water and 50g citric acid solution* to dab the stain.
- Dab the stain with a cloth soaked in turpentine*, working from the outside to the inside.
- Remove as much wax as possible by hand. Afterwards put tissue paper on the stain and iron it.

- Clean and crush egg shells; put them into the washing machine in a knotted cloth and your whites will be even whiter.
- Add two table spoons of fresh milk to the last rinse and your garments will be even whiter than before.
- Soak your garment in cold water and soap flakes. Knead the garment quickly without rubbing it. Use vinegar water for rinsing and do not wring your garment out.

Stains are best removed with a wet cloth.
If you want to clean the entire jacket, soak it in cold water. Then let it just drip dry. Rewax your jacket and repeat this process regularly. That way you can enjoy it over a longer period.
- Place the still wet jumper between two terrycloth towels and roll these together. After the towels have absorbed all the water from the jumper, hang it on a wide, rounded coat hanger for drying.
